Precision Bike Fitting -
Cycling Position Analysis
|
|
|
You and your bike are an integrated system – a holistic
union of human and machine. Not surprisingly, our approach
to bike fitting is also holistic. So you get a ride that’s
fast, comfortable, and uniquely yours.
Three things distinguish the bike fitting services at Whole
Athlete.
-
Precision – Your biomechanics
are meticulously evaluated as an integrated system with
you on the bike. Our recommendations are based on your
strengths, limitations, pedaling style, flexibility, and
any injury or challenge you might have.
- Performance
– A good bike fit should help you achieve real-world
performance gains, not just increase your power in the
lab. We know what works and why because we have both wind
tunnel experience and racing experience. That’s
why pro cyclists continue to turn to Whole Athlete again
and again.
- Handling
– A good bike fit should also help you corner well
and feel great on the bike. It should never make you feel
wobbly or unsafe. Extreme positions are sketchy at best.
A fast ride is also a safe ride.

Trial / Triathlon Fitting & Analysis
- Aerodynamics and Efficiency
|
| Time trial fitting
is both art and science. We take all of your unique riding
characteristics into consideration to minimize aerodynamic
drag while maximizing power. Efficiency and handling are emphasized
in the optimizing of power and speed.

Pedal Stroke Analysis
- Cycling Biomechanics
|
Using
power data from our Maximal Steady State
Test, our pedal stroke analysis protocol provides useful
information about the mechanics of your
pedal stroke.
Pedal
stroke analysis gives us a detailed picture of the
torque production and distribution throughout your pedal stroke.
The analysis is performed using CompuTrainer
SpinScan™
technology, while our unique protocol is based on your individual
power zones. |

|
SpinScan™
pedal stroke analysis provides a multi-color torque graph which
represents one full 360° pedal revolution divided into 15° segments.
It will identify "flat" or "dead spots"
in the pedal stroke where power is not being transferred to
the drivetrain. Graphs show instantaneous right/left leg power
split and where power is being applied for greater aid in development
of under-utilized muscle groups. |

Running
Form & Technique Analysis -
Biomechanical
Efficiency & Technique
|
Balanced
biomechanics, form, and technique are the foundations of running
fast, efficiently, and injury-free. Correct running form ensures
that we create and maintain momentum, deflect and reduce impact,
minimize energy loss, and maximize efficiency and economy.
The
analysis takes place on a flat running track and generally
lasts ~60-90 min. A discussion of the athlete's background
takes place prior to the analysis, including any history of
injury or imbalance that may affect a runner's form. Then,
through observation of body position and biomechanics, recommendations
and drills are introduced to increase efficiency, comfort
and speed while running. Biomechanical
limitations are addressed including stride length, frequency,
upper body position and flexibility. |

Swimming Freestyle
Stroke Analysis - Biomechanical
Efficiency & Technique
|
 |
Swim
stroke analysis entails
a comprehensive session in which we examine and seek to optimize
swimming technique. Each of the fundamental aspects of the
freestyle stroke are addressed using scientifically supported
biomechanical models and hands-on experience.
Specific drills are taught
to remedy any imbalance in stroke mechanics. The analysis
is performed in an outdoor pool and takes ~60-90 min. |
